OLD DHAKA

Most of the entrance of Old Dhaka-"Puran Dhaka" is through DHAKA UNIVERSITY. Cycling around the whole campus is also fun. It has

# Less congestion than the main road
#Hundreds of types of food stalls at Hakim chattar, TSC, Chobir hat. Almost every where there will be a cart or mobile shop/road side stall.
# Peaceful place to hangout through out the day
Shahid Minar

Dhaka university still has the scent of our liberation war in 1971. And if you are in Dhaka University are then Shahid Minar is in the neighborhood. Just have a peek, recall the freedom we earned and vow a respect towards the brave hearts who first raised the voices against the oppression. Since the language movement started from Dhaka University you will find many university halls, sculptures throughout the university area which bears memories from 1971.
Curzon Hall

Some university halls' restrictions are very low thus you might get opportunities to paddle through. You can paddle in Sahidullah hall, apart if they consider you a threat or take it as trespassing. Sahidullah hall has its big field, with basket  ball court and for me the huge 'Koroi' tree at the edge of the mid-field is more  fascinating. As soon as the sun begins to fall flock of birds start to take over the tree. Its a huge tree that holds thousands of parrots, sparrow and crows for the night. Within hours the whole area turns into a fish-market with their cowing and chirping.
A few step ahead there is a big pond for waddling around and next to it is the Curzon Hall.

However enough 'ghura ghuri' roaming around Dhaka University. Lets get into puran Dhaka ....

The map will guide you to Dhaka University, Dhakeshwari Temple, Lalbag fort, Ahsan Manzil . All these spots are filed into a single route.

Dhakeswari temple

Dhakeswari is our national temple thus it is always under police surveillance and fest are common scenario. And if you are lucky enough you might get to have "prasad",if there is a Puja going on.There are enough guards at the main gate thus cyclist might ask for help and I hope they will take enough care of it, I would suggest Hindu cyclists to walk forward and talk.

Ahsan Manzil
lablag fort
If you wanna know about Ahsan Monzil , Lalbag fort or Dakeswari temple just click the blue color links. In both Lalbag and Ahsan Monzil there is cycle parking facility,in fact don't dare to park your cycle in those two locations. These places are always crowded but filled with pick-pockets and muggers. The only option I see is going in a group and then dividing the group into two sub-groups in which one group will chit-chat outside and keep an eye on the cycles and then after an hour the next group shall go keeping the first group in guard of the cycle.

Most importantly as you get into 'puran dhaka' don't forget  to get the taste of Hazir biriyani. "After all a good meal can give you a good day"... :p
